What is ABA
(Applied Behavior Analysis)?

Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) refers to the scientific study of behavior. It sets out to understand what leads to (or doesn’t lead to) new skills as well as the child being able to apply and maintain the skills. In ABA, specialized assessment methods are utilized to see what motivates your little one. That motivation or reinforcement is used to teach him or her socially appropriate behaviors. Verbal Behavior is a language intervention strategy. It centers on ABA as well as techniques of B.F. Skinner, the founder of Behaviorism. This approach can be significant to addressing the language deficits in children and is very effective for those diagnosed on the Autism Spectrum. Children will typically learn within the environment they live in as it provides for conditions to learn language, play, and develop their social skills. However, children diagnosed with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder), learn much, much less “naturally” from their environment. They do have the ability and capacity to learn, but it does take a very structured environment. To teach our children life skills at The Pieces Fit, we provide structured conditions matching the individual needs for each client that will most assist them in acquiring the same skills that typical children learn naturally. ABA is all about how to set up the environment to enable our kids to learn.

Our Inspiration...
Jennifer Scott  M.A., BCBA

Jennifer, or Mrs. Jennifer as she is known in the clinic started as a camp counselor for disabled children. It was there that she realized that her future would be in enriching the lives of the little ones that needed it. She then majored in Special Education, with the specific purpose of getting into a teaching position where she could begin impacting lives. During this time-period she was able to work with children across the spectrum, but really found her calling when it came to the ASD population. With a deep desire to continually enhance her abilities, she went back to school at the Florida Institute of Technology to get her BCaBA coursework completed and achieve Board Certification. It was there that she realized the value of implementing these methods into her daily curriculum with her students.

Jennifer taught as a special education teacher working with ASD students for over 16 years in the public school system. Her last 6 years were spent using her talents to develop the model classroom environment for ABA/VB principles in the Seminole County School System. She also provided all of the training for the teachers and staff that were working with children on the Spectrum.  With each classroom and teacher she trained it became evident to Jen that the school system, while trying to enact as many of the teaching methods as possible... was simply not enough.

The school system still left a gap int he children's needs that could not be filled in a classroom environment.  Her quest to bridge that gap was met when The Pieces Fit opened in April of 2011...

Her passion to achieve the highest results for each of her children is unparalleled.  The commitment sh has to reach the inner person that exists in each of her kids is how and why "The Pieces Fit" was born.
